Neeraj Chopra & PT Usha being overlooked is baffling
S Kannan and G Rajaraman discuss the National Sports Awards, the selection committee decision to ignore Neeraj Chopra for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and PT Usha for the Dronacharya Award, the dilution of the awards and the need to revamp to a more robust system than is now being used.
The awards this year is chaotic. It is absolute mockery. Free for all. So many glaring mistakes. More than 50% of awardees in different categories are undeserving. Minister must wake up and act now.
I wonder if the marking system as given in the application is followed or not ??

On the subject with a big State like Maharashtra in India, a State which is leading, if not, second in Medal Tally in National Aquatics, why are all the deserving Athletes not honoured with Shiv Chatrapati Shivaji Awards ? Is it because they are not born or carry a Maratha Surname ? A number of deserving Athletes can only feel de-motivated because of the visual bias.
