Hemant Kenkre and G Rajaraman strike up a conversation that looks at how the ‘assembly line’ of Indian cricket has changed from schools and universities as well as private tournaments like the Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup in Hyderabad to just age-group competitions. Also, a look at how most cricketers aspire to be part of IPL rather than aim higher at Test cricket.
Lovely conversation guys. What a recollection of the glorious past and the marvellous memory of you both.
Yes, we need to go back to schools and university cricket. But first up, the present domestic cricket set up also needs revival to spark people’s interest.
Talking of private tournaments, Nagpur once hosted a tournament inviting all top stars in the 80s. And Sandeep Patil, Atul Bedade and others set the grounds on fire with huge sixes while Ghavri excelled knocking the stumps among several others.
The ice-cream and tangewallas.. Such has been worship of this sport in India.
Unfortunately, the riches of the IPL has added to the erosion of this ethos.
Another such discussion on all the former players – the greats, top stars, coaches, the lesser-known, the forgotten ones and of course the characters would make for a gripping watch.
Keep the romance on!
If some of the mentioned topics have already been done then my apologies for this was my first watch.
Best regards,
Vinay Nayudu
Dear Vinay,
It is delightful to get such feedback. Both of us will feel encouraged to continue on this journey of conversations that will not only dip in nostalgia but also be relevant to the contemporary times.
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and to write back.
Warm regards
Raj
